Yoghurt Crunch

by kathrynsherratt

Yoghurt crunch is quick, simple and a great way to start the day – a healthy breakfast in a glass! It’s not really a recipe – more an assemble job of laying up the ingredients. Great for on the go and make the night before if you’re in a morning rush.

Oat Health Benefits

Oats are a straight-up great food to eat. Whatever you put them in, they are good for you. Oats are great as they are a low GI food which means they break down and release glucose into the bloodstream slowly. This helps to maintain constant blood sugar levels during the hours after eating. This is beneficial as it prevents feeling hungry a few hours after eating which is when snacking on biscuits or chocolate (ie something sweet) tends to occur.

Oats have the extra benefit of improving cholesterol levels in the body.

Blueberry Health Benefits

Blueberries are an excellent source of flavonoids, especially anthocyanidins which give them their distinctive colour. These compounds are exceptional antioxidants with some research rating their antioxidant levels the highest out of fruit and vegetables!  Such compounds have been found to protect against Alzheimer’s disease as blueberries protected the brain from oxidative stress.

Blueberries also improve vision and protect against age-related macular degeneration. And due to their soluble and insoluble fibre levels blueberries are also a remedy for both diarrhoea and constipation.

Raspberry Health Benefits

Raspberries are an excellent low-calorie nutrient-dense food. They are great for those with a ‘sweet tooth’ who wish to improve their diet without adding in lots of calories.

Flavonoids, which give raspberries their colour, are powerful antioxidants protecting the body from pollutants.

Ellagic acid is a cancer-fighting compound as it protects against damage to chromosomes. It also blocks the cancer-causing actions of many pollutants such as the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons founds in cigarette smoke and toxic chemicals such as benzopyrene.

Give this yoghurt crunch a go – it’s delicious!
