This week it’s rice health benefits from Kat’s Kitchen – a grain so versatile it can go with nearly any meal! There are over 8000 different types of rice which are categorised by size and the method use to process it.
Long, medium and short grain rice are the main types. Sticky rice is produced by the high starch short grain whilst long grain rice is generally less heavy and starchy.
White rice is the most polished rice with all the bran, germ and nutrients removed. Brown rice on the other hand is full of nutrients as with brown rice only the hard, inedible outer hull is removed.
Rice is the most relied open grain across the whole of Asia. In fact in many countries, such as South Korea the word for rice and meal is the same.
Arborio rice is a round, short grain rice, traditionally use to make Italian risotto. Basmati is an aromatic rice that has a nutlike fragrance and a light texture.
Brown rice is by far the most nutritious rice available so it’s always better to go with the brown rice than the white.
