There are 2 major types of peaches, freestone and clingstone named after how easy it is to remove the stone!
The peach is native to China and then was introduced to the Middle East and was spread through Europe by the Romans. The nectarine is a smooth-skinned peach, which is also available in the clingstone and freestone varieties.
Generally, peaches and nectarines provide good levels of potassium, carotenes, flavonoids and natural sugars.
I love cooking with peaches. When baked in the oven with vanilla they make the house smell fabulous. I also enjoy them with parma ham and mozzarella in an Italian style salad. Delicious!
