Egg Health Benefits

by kathrynsherratt

This week it’s the egg health benefits from Kat’s Kitchen. Mini packages of protein and nutrients I think eggs are amazing. My favourite way to enjoy them (at the moment!) is hard-boiled over a salad – great if you’re still eating salads like me as the weather gets colder but need something hot too!

The colour of eggs shells is breed dependent, with most of them either white or brown. The white and yolk contain various fats, some vitamins and nutrients, cholesterol and lecithin.

Eggs are amazing to cook with (flax seeds with water is an alternative for non-egg eaters) as they form the glue of many important baking reactions such as foaming, the ability of things to go brown, and emulsification which makes mayonnaise what it is.

People have been enjoying eggs for thousands of years. Eggs are a long time symbol of fertility and rebirth and as well as being important in culinary circles it has also taken their place in religious circles. Painted, decorated eggs are often seen in many countries at Easter time.

Here are some other reasons to include eggs in your diet:

Egg Health Benefits

  • Excellent source of Vitamin K to support blood health and blood clotting
  • Source of protein to build and repair muscles
  • Rich source of choline to support flexible cell membranes and brain function
  • Promote good heart health due to betaine which can help prevent damage to blood vessels
