This week it’s fig health benefits from Kat’s Kitchen.
Figs grow on the ficus tree which is a member of the mulberry family. They are unique in that they have an opening called an ‘eye’ that is not connected to the tree but helps the fruit’s development.
Figs have a sweet taste with a chewy texture to their flesh and skin with crunchy seeds. Fresh figs are delicate and reasonably perishable which is why they are often dried.
Figs can vary in colour depending upon the variety of which there are more than 150. Figs were one of the world’s first cultivated trees with references in the Bible. Figs were held in such regard by the Ancient Greeks that laws were introduced to prevent the export of the finest quality figs.
